A random bit-flipping method for seeking agreement

چکیده

Recently Papadimitriou has proposed a randomised ‘bit flipping’ method for solving the 2-satisfiability problem; and the author has proposed a randomised recolouring method which, given a 3-colourable graph, finds a 2-colouring of the vertices so that no triangle is monochromatic. Both methods involve finding a ‘bad’ configuration (unsatisfied clause, monochromatic triangle) and randomly changing one of the bits involved. In this paper we see how these problems and methods fit naturally in a more general geometrical context in which we seek a vector which ‘agrees’ with a given collection of vectors; and we propose a simple ‘bit-flipping’ method for the more general problem, which extends the solution methods for the two problems mentioned above. Further, we consider deterministic methods to handle such problems, and in particular we see how to solve the above ‘triangle problem’ for 3colourable graphs deterministically in polynomial time.

Search Based Weighted Multi-Bit Flipping Algorithm for High-Performance Low-Complexity Decoding of LDPC Codes

In this paper, two new hybrid algorithms are proposed for decoding Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes. Original version of the proposed algorithms named Search Based Weighted Multi Bit Flipping (SWMBF). The main idea of these algorithms is flipping variable multi bits in each iteration, change in which leads to the syndrome vector with least hamming weight. To achieve this, the proposed algo...

One Scan 1-Bit Compressed Sensing

Based on α-stable random projections with small α, we develop a simple algorithm for compressed sensing (sparse signal recovery) by utilizing only the signs (i.e., 1-bit) of the measurements. Using only 1-bit information of the measurements results in substantial cost reduction in collection, storage, communication, and decoding for compressed sensing. The proposed algorithm is efficient in tha...

Modified Multi-bit Flipping Decoding Algorithm for Low-density Parity-check Codes

Aiming at seeking a low complexity decoder of the low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, we present one modified multi-bit flipping (MMBF) algorithm. For those LDPC codes whose parity check matrices have light column weight, both the bootstrap step and a novel delay-handling step are included in MMBF, based on one framework which is the combination of conventional PWBF and IWBF. On the other ha...

Very-Efficient Simulatable Flipping of Many Coins into a Well - (and a New Universally-Composable Commitment Scheme)

Secure two-party parallel coin-flipping is a cryptographic functionality that allows two mutually distrustful parties to agree on a common random bitstring of a certain target length. In coin-flipping into-a-well, one party learns the bit-string and then decides whether to abort or to allow the other party to learn it. It is well known that this functionality can be securely achieved in the ide...
